Hansen Dam Location: Coming Soon!

Hansen Dam is 1,400 beautiful acres of land located in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. The City of Los Angeles awarded the Children’s Museum of Los Angeles a 50-year lease on an acre of land in the park. This spectacular natural setting offers unique and exciting opportunities for programs and exhibits about native peoples, health and safety, and the environment. After a national search, the Museum's Board of Governors chose the world-renowned exhibit design firm, Edwin Schlossberg Incorporated to invent, design and fabricate this hands-on, participatory museum.

Sarah Graham of Angelil/ Graham/ Pfenninger/ Scholl, was chosen from a large field of Southern California architects, to design the building. Her extensive work in creating “green” buildings insures that the 60,000 square-foot museum, will be a work of sustainable architecture – an exhibit in itself. It will have an indoor-outdoor feeling and the visitors will move easily between the environments, encouraging the audience to experience new and different ways to build and maintain public buildings. The surrounding landscape will incorporate a “boundless playground” with access for children with disabilities; a city library, a colorful, inviting maze entrance; and a garden-discovery space of flora and fauna native to the northeast Valley.

The NEW Children’s Museum of Los Angeles at Hansen Dam will be an artistic laboratory designed to capture the imagination of children of all ages, races, religions and abilities; a museum that will offer opportunities for children and their adults to communicate ideas beyond the realm of their every day experiences.
